YouTube

YouTube is a powerful video sharing tool.  Anyone can watch videos on YouTube, but you must be a registered user to upload videos, save favorites, create playlists, and comment on videos.  YouTube is a free service.

People are watching 2 billion videos a day on YouTube and uploading hundreds of thousands of videos daily. In fact, every minute, 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube.  The average user is between 18 - 55 years of age, most going on at least weekly to watch videos.

Some facts about YouTube:

  • You can insert YouTube videos into Facebook, Google Places, LinkedIn, blogs and your personal website.
  • You may select to let your videos be seen publicly or privately (think sharing videos with just family and friends).
  • If you like someone’s video’s you can “subscribe” to their videos.
  • You can use a Webcam (a camera attached to your computer) to instantly record videos.

YouTube is an amazing tool.  You can find videos on anything, cooking lessons (I looked up how to cook a Beef Tenderloin), beauty and health videos (how to do your own French Manicure), fitness expert, musicians, filmmakers, comedians, and more!

The YouTube community is truly in control on YouTube and they determine what is popular on the site. No doubt, you have heard about the videos that became “viral” because of YouTube. Many people have received their “15 minutes” of fame because of YouTube.
